God, the Intimate Guide for Your Life

Format for Holy Hour

Lesson: God our Creator is deeply personal. He is not only “transcendent” from this world, meaning far beyond and above it, He is also perfectly “imminent” to this world and, more specifically, perfectly imminent to you. This means He is present, intimate, caring and loving, and He longs to consume every aspect of your body, mind and soul.

Though God knows you with perfect knowledge, He will not impose Himself upon you or force His love and guidance upon you. You must invite Him and allow Him to take over your life. This is a choice that you must do once, twice and then every moment of every day of your life.

Again, God wants to “consume” you. This means that He wants to receive from you your unlimited permission to enter into every aspect of your life to be your God and Divine Guide. He wants to act in you and through you. He wants His Heart to live in your heart, His thoughts to become your thoughts and His actions to become your actions.

This is done only by a total and unwavering surrender to Him in every area of your life. Nothing is too great to surrender to God and nothing is too small. All things, from the smallest thought to the most visible action, must be given over to the control of God, your loving Creator and Guide.

When God is in control of your life, you do not lose yourself. Rather, when He is in control of every action of your life, you become who you were made to be. You were made for perfect union with God, oneness, communion, unity. You were made to live in God and Him in you. Unless God is your Guide in all things, your life is aimless and confused.

Reflection: Stop and ponder the beautiful reality, that you have the one and only All-Powerful Creator of the Universe knocking at the door of your heart, seeking to enter and lead you through life into eternal joys. (Silent Reflection)

As you hear His invitation, say “Yes” to this King, Leader, Master and Governor of all of Creation. Say “Yes” to Him as your personal and intimate God and Guide through life. Surrender over to Him everything that you are and all that you will become. Do not hold anything back. (Silent Reflection)

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all I have and possess…(Silent Reflection)
