To Hear His Voice and Follow Am
Fourth Sunday of Easter (Year A)—Good Shepherd Sunday
Jesus talk say: “Amen, amen, I dey tell una, anybody wey no enter the sheep pen through the gate, but climb enter from another place, na thief and robber. But the person wey enter through the gate na the person wey dey look after the sheep. The gatekeeper dey open the gate for am, and the sheep dey hear im voice, as e dey call im own sheep by name and lead dem comot.” John 10:1–3
The people for Jesus time go don understand this story easily. People wey dey look after sheep dey normally talk to their sheep throughout the day, so that the sheep go sabi their voice well as dem dey lead the sheep go different grasslands to graze. For night, several people wey dey look after sheep go bring their sheep together inside enclosure wey get gates wey dem secure well, so that the sheep go dey safe. For morning, each person go then call im own sheep. Because the sheep sabi the voice of the person wey dey look after dem, dem go follow their own person, no be the others.
The first question wey each of us suppose ask ourself today na this: I sabi the voice of the Person wey dey look after the sheep? I don sabi His voice so well that I fit clearly tell the difference between His voice and other voices? Try picture many people wey dey look after sheep, as all of dem dey call their sheep at the same time. This picture show the different voices wey dey compete for our attention for life. But na only one of those voices be God voice. You sabi His voice? Or the many other sudden urges, desires and things wey dey attract you and compete for your attention dey confuse you?
Jesus continue His teaching as He talk say no be only the Person wey dey look after the sheep and wey the sheep sabi His voice He be; He also be the gate. “Na Me be the gate. Anybody wey enter through Me go get salvation, and e go enter and comot and find grassland to graze.” Wetin our Lord mean when He call Himself the gate?
As di Gate, na Him be di Word of God, wey God don reveal to us through di Scriptures. To remain faithful to di Word of God na one of di ways wey sure pass to enter di life of grace. Na Him be di Word of Truth wey di Magisterium, di teaching authority of di Church, dey hand down and explain. If we remain faithful to di true teaching of di Magisterium, especially when di Holy Father dey speak in union with di bishops, e go help us avoid di plenty errors of our time. Jesus dey become present to us through di Sacraments, wey be di door to His grace and di entrance to di food for our spiritual life. Also, any time our Lord come meet us, whether through holy preaching, di witness and teaching of di saints, di life of prayer inside di Church, or any other way, we dey enter di gate and dem dey allow us enter His green pastures.
Jesus na di gate, no be only for di sheep, but also for each shepherd wey dey lead di sheep in His name. Na dem be di pastors of di Church wey dem don entrust with di mission of Christ to lead God people. Today, if any shepherd of di Church fail to preach Jesus Christ, then dat shepherd “come only to steal, kill and destroy.” Di pastors of di Church must humble themselves and listen well to dis words, so dat dem no go ever fail to care for God people by leading dem through di Gate, wey be Christ Himself. All of dem must remain faithful to di whole Tradition of our Church, wey dem don dey hand down through all di ages, and dem no must turn away from di pure and holy faith wey God don entrust to di Church. If dem preach their own gospel, or dem no take their preaching seriously, or dem mislead people with their preaching, then dem no be true shepherds. God true sheep no go recognise dem. But if dem remain faithful to everything wey Jesus don teach, then dem go lead di sheep through di gate and become shepherds wey dey in union with di Heart of di Good Shepherd.
Today, reflect on dis picture of Christ, di Good Shepherd, wey dey call us in different ways. We must learn to know His true voice through faith and prayer. Once we recognise His voice, e go easier for us to notice how He dey minister to us, inspire us, and invite us to di life of grace as we encounter Him as di source and di way to dis new life.
Good Shepherd, You dey speak to me all di time, dey show me Your presence and how You dey guide my life. Make I know Your holy Voice so well dat I go always recognise am. Lead me come meet You, di glorious Gate to di life of grace, and change me to sheep wey dey faithful and obedient. Jesus, my Good Shepherd, na You I trust.
Instruments Wey di Good Shepherd Dey Use
Fourth Sunday of Easter (Year B)—Sunday of di Good Shepherd
Jesus talk say: “Na Me be di good shepherd. Good shepherd dey lay down im life for di sheep. Person wey dem hire, wey no be shepherd and wey di sheep no belong to, go see wolf dey come, leave di sheep and run away, and di wolf go catch dem and scatter dem. Na because na for pay e dey work, and e no care about di sheep.” John 10:11–13
Today, for di Fourth Sunday of Easter, we dey celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday. Na day wey we dey reflect on di tender picture of Jesus as di Shepherd of all of us. Na also day wey dem set aside to pray for more shepherds inside our Church wey go care for God flock with di Heart of Christ.
Our Gospel passage come from John 10, wey part of am dey explain di chapter before am. Dat chapter get di long and detailed story of how Jesus heal di blind man. Remember say Jesus heal dis man wey blind from birth. He do dis healing “so dat people fit see di works of God through am.” Because dis man receive healing, di Pharisees drive di blind man comot from di synagogue, because dem no believe say di healing wey Jesus do come from God. After dem drive di man comot from di synagogue, Jesus talk with am again, and e declare di deep faith wey e get in Jesus, di true Shepherd. Di blind man wey receive healing talk say, “Lord, I believe.” Then e worship Jesus. So, di greater healing wey dis man receive na say e become member of God flock, as e accept Jesus as im true Shepherd.
For our Gospel today, Jesus dey explain di actions of di Pharisees and how dem differ from His own. Di Pharisees, as religious leaders, no be shepherds. Dem be “thieves and robbers” wey come to “steal, kill and destroy.” But Jesus come so dat people wey listen to His voice “fit get life, and get am more abundantly.”
The Gospel passage wey dem quote above explain why the Pharisees no be true shepherds. Na because dem “dey work for pay” and dem “no care for the sheep.” Think about wetin this statement mean concerning the Pharisees and how dem treat this man wey blind from birth. First of all, the “pay” wey these Pharisees dey work for na to make themselves important—a reward wey no dey last and wey belong to this world. Dem see themselves as the true teachers and interpreters of the Law, and dem see anybody wey no follow them as threat. The Pharisees clearly see Jesus as this kind threat to them. Na because of this, dem pour their envy on this humble and simple blind man. Dem no act as shepherds to am. Dem no encourage am, support am, show am the way to God or act in any way as instrument of God’s grace. Instead, because of their pride, dem condemn this innocent and holy man.
Even though God dey lead and care for us today through His holy pastors, He call all of us to join for this work of the Good Shepherd, each of us for the special way wey belong to us. He call us to lead the people for our families, for work, for school, for our neighbourhoods, among our friends and for every other part of society. But too many times, we dey copy these Pharisees as we allow our selfishness and desire to make ourselves important stop us from putting other people first and loving them with the Shepherd’s heart.
Today, think deeply about the call wey you don receive to lay down your life for other people as you follow the example of the Good Shepherd. To follow the example of this love wey dey the Heart of Christ, we must love without looking for love in return. To lay down our lives na act of sacrificial love wey make us fit focus only on the needs of the people around us. Pride and selfishness must disappear, and the good of the other person must become our only goal. Think deeply about how well you dey do this, and pray make the Good Shepherd use you to lead and care for the people for your life wey need am pass.
Divine Shepherd, You come to lay down Your life for all of us so that we go fit get life and get am to the full. Like the blind man wey You heal, I declare my faith in You and I worship You. Help me to receive Your love and follow Your example of love, so that I go lay down my life for other people and lead them to You, their holy Shepherd. Jesus, my Good Shepherd, na You I trust.
To Lead and Care for People Through Virtue
Fourth Sunday of Easter (Year C)—Sunday of di Good Shepherd
Jesus talk say: “My sheep dey hear my voice; I know them, and dem dey follow me. I dey give them eternal life, and dem no go ever perish. Nobody fit take them comot from my hand.” John 10:27–28
The picture of Jesus as the Good Shepherd na picture wey dey touch our hearts. Plenty artists don show the gentleness of Christ as He dey lead His sheep or carry one lamb wey don stray for His shoulders. Na this picture dem give us today as we dey celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday.
For our short Gospel passage today, Jesus speak to some of the Jews wey dey try use His own words trap Am. Before this passage, dem ask Am say, “How long You go keep us without clear answer? If You be the Messiah, tell us clearly.” Jesus answer them say, “I don tell una, and una no believe.” Jesus answer like this because the people wey dey question Am no really want know whether He be the Messiah. Instead, dem want accuse Am of blasphemy. But Jesus tell them say He don already show them Who He be through His works: “The works wey I dey do in my Father’s name dey testify about me.”
You dey see God’s works for your life? If you dey see them, then e important to understand say Jesus’ works na one of the main ways wey He dey speak to you and lead you as your Shepherd. God truly dey speak to us through His Word as e dey revealed for the Scriptures and for the teachings of the Church. But He still dey speak to us through His works. Among the plenty works of God for your life na the work of grace wey God dey use help you grow in virtue. So, e important to look for the ways wey virtue wey come from God’s power dey grow for your life. For example, you dey see courage when fear dey face you? If na so, wetin God dey tell you as this virtue dey grow? You dey see ability wey come from God’s power to forgive another person? If na so, wetin God dey tell you as that virtue dey grow? You dey see growth in the virtue of devotion to God, wey dey make your prayer life become more important to you? If na so, wetin God dey tell you as this virtue dey grow?
When we discern wetin God want, e dey help us hear Im voice and follow Am. And one of the best ways to discern wetin God want na to look for the ways wey God dey touch your life. Where you see say good character dey grow, wetin God want dey there, and E dey call you make you grow for that area. But if anything dey your life wey dey lead you enter sin, and because of that, your good character dey reduce, this one too na God voice wey dey tell you make you avoid these things.
Today, think deeply about the things wey God dey do for your life wey you fit notice. Even though God dey speak clearly to us through Im Word wey E don reveal, E still dey speak to us and guide us as Shepherd through the ways wey E dey touch our souls wey we fit notice. Where you see say good character dey grow, you go find wetin God want. Where you see say good character dey reduce, you no go find wetin God want. Listen to God as E dey speak to you this way, so that you go hear Im voice, follow Am and receive life wey no dey end.
My Lord wey dey reveal Yourself, You dey speak to me day and night, dey call me make I follow You as my Shepherd. Make I learn to recognise Your voice as You dey speak to me for different ways, so that I go follow You more readily anywhere wey You lead me. Jesus, my Good Shepherd, na You I trust.
How to Recognize God Voice
Monday of di Fourth Week of Easter
“But the person wey enter through the gate na the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper dey open the gate for am, and the sheep dey hear im voice, as the shepherd dey call im own sheep by name and lead dem comot. When e don bring all im own sheep comot, e dey walk for their front, and the sheep dey follow am, because dem recognise im voice.” John 10:2–4
You dey recognize the Shepherd voice? He dey lead you every day, dey guide you make you do His holy will? How well you dey pay attention to wetin He dey talk every day? These na some of the most important questions wey you suppose think deeply about.
To recognize God voice na something wey plenty people dey struggle with. Many times, plenty different “voices” dey try to get our attention every day. From the latest news headlines, to wetin friends and family think, to the temptations wey surround us for this world wey no dey put God first, to the opinions wey we form by ourselves, e fit hard to sort out these “voices” or “ideas” wey fill our minds. Which one come from God? And which one come from other sources?
To recognise God voice na something wey truly dey possible. First of all, plenty general truths dey wey God don already tell us. For example, everything wey dey inside Holy Scripture na God voice. Im Word dey alive. And when we read Scripture, we dey know God voice more and more.
God dey also speak to us through gentle promptings wey dey bring His peace. For example, when you dey think about one decision wey you need to make, if you carry that decision go meet our Lord for prayer, then keep your heart open to anything wey He want from you, many times His answer dey come as deep peace wey your heart dey sure of.
You dey learn to recognize God voice for your everyday life as you dey build the habit inside you to listen, recognize His voice, respond, listen again, recognize and respond, and continue like that. The more you hear God voice, the more you go recognize His voice even for the quietest ways wey He dey speak. And the more you learn to hear those quiet ways, the more you go fit follow Him. For the end, na only through steady habit of deep prayer wey dey sustain you that you fit do this. Without that, e go very hard to recognize the Shepherd voice when you need Him pass.
Today, think deeply about how well you dey pay attention to God for prayer. How your daily prayer be? You dey take time every day to listen to the gentle and beautiful voice of our Lord? You dey try build the habit wey go make Im voice dey clearer and clearer to you? If no be so, if you dey struggle to recognise Im voice, then decide to build a deeper habit of daily prayer, so that na the voice of our Lord wey love us go dey lead you every day.
Jesus, my Good Shepherd, You dey speak to me every single day. You dey always reveal to me wetin You want for my life, wey holy pass all. Help me make I always recognise Your gentle voice, so that You go fit lead me through the challenges of life. Make my prayer life deep well-well and continue to give me strength, so that Your voice go always dey sound inside my heart and soul. Jesus, na You I trust.
To Learn God Language
Tuesday for the Fourth Week of Easter
Jesus dey walk about for di Temple area, for Solomon Veranda. So di Jews gather round Am and tell Am, “How long You go keep us without clear answer? If na You be di Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answer dem, “I don tell una, but una no believe.” John 10:24–25
Why these people no know say Jesus na the Christ? Dem want make Jesus speak to dem “clear-clear,” but Jesus surprise dem as He talk say He don already answer their question, but dem “no believe.” This Gospel passage continue the beautiful teaching about Jesus as the Good Shepherd. E dey interesting say these people want make Jesus talk clear-clear whether He be the Christ or not. But instead, Jesus talk clear-clear say dem no believe in Him because dem no dey listen. Dem no catch wetin He don talk, and confusion still dey worry dem.
One thing wey this dey tell us be say God dey speak to us for His own way, no be necessarily the way we want make He speak. He dey speak one language wey get spiritual mystery, wey deep, gentle and hidden. Na only people wey don learn His language He dey show His deepest mysteries. But for people wey no understand God language, confusion dey enter.
If you ever find say confusion dey worry you for life, or you no understand the plan wey God get for you, then maybe time don reach to check how carefully you dey listen to the way God dey speak. We fit beg God day and night make He “speak clear-clear” to us, but He go only speak for the way wey He don always dey speak. And which language be that? For the deepest level, na the language of prayer wey God Himself dey put inside our soul.
Prayer, as we know, no be just to recite prayers. For the deepest sense, prayer na relationship of love with God. Na communication for the deepest level. Prayer na God work inside our soul, through which God dey invite us to believe in Him, follow Him and love Him. He dey always give us this invitation, but too many times we no dey hear am because we no dey truly pray.
Plenty parts of John Gospel, including Chapter Ten wey we dey read from today, dey speak for one way wey get spiritual mystery. You no fit just read am like novel and understand everything wey Jesus talk after you read am once. You must listen to Jesus teaching inside your soul with prayer, think deeply about am, and listen again. This way go open the ears of your heart make you know for sure say na God voice.
Today, think deeply about the mysterious ways wey God dey communicate with you. If you no understand how He dey speak, then that na good place to start. Spend time with this Gospel, dey think deeply about am with prayer. Meditate on Jesus words, dey listen for His voice. Learn His language through silent prayer, and allow His holy words draw you come meet Him.
My Lord wey remain hidden and full of mystery, You dey speak to me day and night, and You dey continue to reveal Your love to me. Help me learn to listen to You, so that I go grow deep for faith and truly become Your follower for every way. Jesus, na You I trust.
God Na One
Wednesday for the Fourth Week of Easter
Jesus cry out say, “Anybody wey believe in me no believe only in me, but also in the one wey send me, and anybody wey see me don see the one wey send me.” John 12:44–45
Notice say Jesus words for the passage wey dem quote above start with “Jesus call out with loud voice…” The Gospel writer deliberately add this part to give the statement more weight. Jesus no just “talk” these words; He “call out with loud voice.” Because of this, we suppose pay special attention to these words and allow dem speak to us even more.
This part of the Gospel happen for the week before Jesus enter His Passion. He enter Jerusalem with victory, and after that, throughout the week, He dey speak to different groups of people while the Pharisees dey plan against Am. Tension dey high, and Jesus dey speak with more and more strength and clarity. He talk about His death wey dey come, how plenty people no believe, and how He and the Father for Heaven be one. One time during the week, as Jesus dey talk about how He and the Father be one, the Father speak with voice wey everybody fit hear. Jesus just talk say, “Father, give Your name glory.” Then the Father speak say, “I don give am glory, and I go give am glory again.” Some people think say na thunder, and others think say na angel. But na the Father for Heaven.
Wetin happen around this passage go help us as we dey reflect on today Gospel. Jesus really want make we know say if we get faith in Am, we get faith in the Father too, because He and the Father be one. True-true, this teaching about how God be one no be new thing to us today—all of us suppose sabi the teaching about the Most Holy Trinity well-well. But for plenty ways, we must see this teaching about the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit as something new, and think deeply about am afresh every day.
Imagine say Jesus dey speak to you personally, with plenty strength, about His unity with the Father. Think carefully about how deeply He want make you understand this divine mystery of how Dem be one. Allow yourself to feel how much Jesus want make you understand Who He be in relation to His Father.
When we seek to understand the Trinity through prayer, e dey teach us plenty things, no be only about Who God be, but also about who we be. God dey call us make we share for Im oneness by becoming one with Dem through love. The early Church Fathers often talk about how God call us make we become “divinized,” that is, make we share for God own divine life. And even though this mystery pass wetin we fit understand finish, na mystery wey Jesus deeply want make we think about through prayer.
Today, reflect on the strong desire for Jesus heart to show you Who He be in relation to the Father. Open your heart to understand this divine truth more deeply. And as you open yourself to wetin God dey reveal, allow God to also show you how He want draw you enter Their holy life of unity. Na this be your calling. Na because of this Jesus come earth. He come to draw us enter the very life of God. Believe am with strong desire and full conviction.
My Lord wey get deep love, long ago You talk about how You and the Father for Heaven be one. Today, You dey speak to me again about this glorious truth. Draw me close, dear Lord, no be only to the great mystery of how You and the Father be one, but also to the mystery of how You dey call me make I share for Your life. I accept this invitation, and I pray make I become one more fully with You, the Father and the Holy Spirit. Most Holy Trinity, na You I trust.
You Be Person Wey God Don Bless?
Thursday for Di Fourth Week of Easter
After Jesus don wash the disciples their feet, e tell dem say: “Amen, amen, I dey tell una, no slave greater pass im master, and no messenger greater pass the person wey send am. If una understand this, blessing dey for una if una do am.” John 13:16–17
For this Fourth Week of Easter, we return to the Last Supper, and we go spend some weeks dey reflect on the long talk wey Jesus give His disciples that Holy Thursday evening. The question wey you go ask yourself today na this: “You get blessing?” Jesus talk say you get blessing if you “understand” and “do” wetin He teach His disciples. So wetin He teach dem?
Jesus do this action wey carry prophetic meaning: He take the role of slave as He wash His disciples feet. As people dey talk, His action speak far louder than words. This action humble the disciples, and Peter first refuse am. Almost no doubt dey say this humble service, wey Jesus use lower Himself before His disciples, touch dem deeply.
The way the world see greatness different well-well from wetin Jesus teach. Greatness for the world mean say you dey raise yourself for other people eye, dey struggle to make dem know how good you be. Many times, na fear of wetin other people fit think about you, and desire for everybody to honour you, dey push this kind greatness. But Jesus want make e clear say na only if we serve we go truly be great. We must humble ourselves before others, dey lift dem up and acknowledge the good wey dey inside dem, dey honour dem and show dem the deepest love and respect. As Jesus wash their feet, He completely leave the world way of seeing greatness, and He call His disciples to do the same.
Sometimes, e hard to understand humility. Na why Jesus talk say, “If you understand this…” He know say e go hard for the disciples, and for all of us too, to understand why e important to humble ourselves before others and serve dem. But if you understand humility, you go “get blessing” when you live am out. The world no go see you as person wey get blessing, but for God eye, you go truly get blessing.
We dey especially live out humility when we purify our desire for honour and high standing, when we overcome every fear say people go treat us badly, and when, instead of this desire and fear, we desire plenty blessings for others, even before ourselves. This love and humility na the only way to enter this mysterious and deep love.
Today, reflect on this humble action of the Son of God, the Saviour of the World, as He lower Himself before His disciples and serve dem as if He be slave. Try imagine yourself dey do this for others. Think about different ways wey you fit more readily make extra effort to put others and their needs before your own. Try remove every selfish desire wey you dey struggle with, and recognise any fear wey dey stop you from being humble. Understand this gift of humility and live am out. Na only then you go truly get blessing.
My humble Lord, You show us di perfect example of love when You choose to serve Your disciples with deep humility. Help me understand dis beautiful virtue and live by am. Free me from all selfishness and fear, so dat I fit love other people as You don love all of us. Jesus, na You I trust.
How to Overcome Trouble for Your Heart
Friday for the Fourth Week of Easter
Jesus tell His disciples: “No let una heart worry. Una get faith in God; make una get faith in Me too.” John 14:1
For John Gospel, Chapters 14–17 give us wetin dem dey call Jesus “Teachings for the Last Supper,” or His “Last Teachings.” Na series of sermons wey our Lord give His disciples for the night wey dem arrest Am. These teachings get deep meaning, and dem full of pictures wey stand for other things. He talk about the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, the vine and the branches, and the hatred wey the world get. These teachings end with Jesus Prayer as High Priest. These teachings start with today Gospel, where Jesus talk about the fear or trouble for heart wey He know say His disciples go soon experience.
Make we start by thinking about this first thing wey Jesus talk above: “Make una no let una heart trouble.” Na command be this. Na gentle command, but e still be command. Jesus know say His disciples go soon see as dem arrest Am, accuse Am falsely, mock Am, beat Am and kill Am. He know say wetin dem go soon experience go overwhelm dem, so He use this chance take rebuke the fear wey dem go soon face, with gentleness and love.
Fear fit come from many different places. Some kind fear dey help us, like the fear wey person dey feel when danger dey. For this kind situation, that fear fit make us notice the danger more, so that we go move with care. But the fear wey Jesus dey talk about here na different kind. Na fear wey fit make person take decisions wey no follow sense, confuse, and even lose hope completely. Na this kind fear our Lord want use gentle way rebuke.
Wetin dey make you fear sometimes? Many people dey struggle with anxiety, worry and fear for many different reasons. If na something wey you dey struggle with, e important make you allow Jesus words sink well into your mind and heart. The best way to overcome fear na to rebuke am from where e dey come from. Hear Jesus as He dey tell you, “No let your heart trouble.” Then listen to His second command: “Una get faith for God; make una get faith for Me too.” Faith for God na the cure for fear. When we get faith, na God voice dey guide us. Na God truth dey direct us, no be the difficulty wey we dey face. Fear fit make us think for way wey no follow sense, and that kind thinking fit carry us deeper and deeper into confusion. Faith dey break through the thinking wey no follow sense wey dey tempt us, and the truths wey faith dey show us dey make things clear and give us strength.
Today, think deeply about anything wey dey cause you the most anxiety, worry and fear for your life. Allow Jesus talk to you, call you to get faith, and rebuke those troubles with gentleness but without backing down. When you get faith for God, you fit endure everything. Jesus endure the Cross. The disciples too later endure their own crosses. God want strengthen you too. Allow Am talk to you so that you go overcome anything wey dey trouble your heart pass.
My Shepherd wey love me, You know everything. You know my heart and di difficulties wey I dey face for life. My dear Lord, give me di courage wey I need to face every temptation to fear, with confidence and trust in You. Make my mind clear and give my troubled heart peace. Jesus, na You I trust.
To Do di Greatest Work for Dis World
Saturday for di Fourth Week of Easter
“Amen, amen, I dey tell una, anybody wey believe in Me go do di works wey I dey do, and e go do works wey great pass dem, because I dey go meet di Father. And anything wey una ask in My name, I go do am, so dat di Father go receive glory through di Son. If una ask Me anything in My name, I go do am.” John 14:12–14
How e take be say God call us to do works wey great pass di works wey Jesus Himself do? Truly, na so e be. Na dis be our calling. We know dis because na wetin our Lord promise us. Dis truth suppose fill us with gratitude because God dey use us in such powerful way.
Among di works wey “great pass” wey Jesus talk about, di first and most important one na to spread di Gospel reach every end of di earth. When Jesus dey live for dis world, His mission na mainly to di people of Israel. But when He ascend go Heaven and send di Holy Spirit upon di Church, He also give everybody wey go receive di Holy Spirit power to spread di Gospel reach every end of di earth. So, di turning of people’s hearts to God na di greatest work wey we fit join hand with God to do.
You want do great things? Most children dey dream to do so, because dis desire dey inside our human nature. We want make our life bring change. We want be great. But too often, we dey confuse about wetin true greatness be. We dey try satisfy dat desire wey dey inside us from birth through things wey di world see as great but wey no go last. We dey seek recognition, wealth and other rewards wey no go last, wey come from selfish ambition. None of dem fit truly satisfy us in di end, even if we get dem reach di highest level. For example, imagine say you win di Nobel Peace Prize, or you become di leader of one nation, or you become di richest person wey dey alive. If you achieve one of dis goals, e go truly satisfy you? Only if na God’s will. If no be so, na something empty and meaningless e go be.
Start by looking inside yourself. You see di desire wey dey inside you to do great things? I hope say you see am. From there, remind yourself say di greatest thing wey you fit do to satisfy di desire inside you na to do wetin be God’s will for your life. Jesus talk say, “If una ask Me anything in My name, I go do am.” To ask in Jesus’ name mean to ask make His will come to pass. E mean to ask make God use you bring His saving grace to other people in any way wey He choose. If you ask our Lord for dis grace, He go give you am.
Dis kind prayer need humility and make we completely let go of our own will. E need make we ask di Father only for wetin di Son dey ask di Father for us. But di reward of dis kind humble prayer na say God go give other people His grace and mercy through us. Na dis be His perfect will.
Today, think deeply about dis high calling. Do am by looking at di desire for greatness wey dey inside your own soul, then join dat desire with God’s will as di only thing wey fit truly satisfy you. Pray for dis gift every day with humility and with readiness to let go of your own will, and you go become instrument for works wey dey give God eternal glory. For Heaven, dis go be your eternal joy.
Lord wey dey care for and guide everything, Your will dey perfect and full of glory. Abeg, help me humble myself before You every day, so dat I go understand Your will for my life and always choose am. Make I be instrument of Your saving grace to everybody wey You wish to touch through me. Jesus, na You I trust.
