Maybe the virtue wey shine pass for Saint Joseph na how e stay faithful—not only to im new wife, but also to wetin God want, as God reveal am to Joseph through this angel. And even though angels no dey appear to us for dream for the same way, God don give us the Gospels, the teachings of the Church and the lives of the saints to lead us into wetin E want. True Servants of God
Fourth Sunday for Advent (Year B)
“See, I be the Lord female servant. Make e happen to me as you don talk.” Luke 1:38a (Year B)
Wetin e mean to be “the Lord female servant?” The word “handmaid” mean “female servant.” And Mary call herself servant. To talk am clear, na servant of the Lord. Throughout history, some “female servants” na slaves wey no get any right at all. Dem be property of their owners, and dem must do wetin their owners tell dem. For other times and cultures, na more by her own choice woman dey become female servant, and she get some rights. But all female servants dey under somebody wey dem dey serve.
But our Blessed Mama na completely new kind of female servant. Why? Because na the Most Holy Trinity she receive call to serve. Truly, she dey under God wey she dey serve. But when the one wey you dey serve perfectly get perfect love for you, and dey guide you for ways wey go build you up, raise your dignity, and transform you for holiness, then na wisdom wey mouth no fit describe to no just serve this master, but to freely become slave, humble yourself as low as possible before this kind master. Nothing suppose make person hesitate to serve reach this depth!
So, the way our Blessed Mama serve na something new, because na service wey reach the deepest level, but na still wetin she freely choose. And wetin the Most Holy Trinity do for her in return na to guide all her thoughts and actions, all her strong feelings and desires, and every single part of her life towards glory, fulfilment and holy life.
We must learn from the wisdom and actions of our Blessed Mama. She surrender her life completely to the Most Holy Trinity, no be only for her own good, but also to set example for each one of us. Our deepest prayer wey we dey pray every day must become like her own: “I be the Lord female servant. Make e happen to me as you don talk.” If we follow her example, e no go only join us deeply with our God wey be Trinity, but e go also do similar thing for us by making us instruments of the Saviour of the World. We go become His “mama” for the sense say we go bring Jesus into our world for other people. See the glorious call wey we don receive to follow the example of this most holy Mother of God.
Today, think deeply about your call to pray this prayer of our Blessed Mama. Think about the words, consider wetin this prayer mean, and try hard to make am your own prayer today and every day. Follow her example, and you go begin share more fully for her glorious life of grace.

The Witness of Mary and Joseph

As we enter the fourth week of Advent, we receive our Blessed Mama and St. Joseph as people wey we go think deeply about. St. Joseph face one extraordinary mystery when he discover say him wife get belle. Abraham begin the family line and Jesus complete am. Help me make I let go of my own ideas and desires, and make I surrender myself more deeply, with trust, to everything wey You don prepare for me. Lord, Your wisdom perfect. The Faith of Saint Joseph

The angel of the Lord appear to Joseph for dream and talk say, “Joseph, son of David, no fear to take Mary your wife enter your house. Na through the Holy Spirit this pikin take enter her belle. To listen to God voice through the angels no mean say we must see the angels or hear dem dey talk with our ears. Instead, na to recognise this language of love wey dem dey speak to us and wey dey call us to faith.
Today, listen inside the silence of your heart, and allow yourself to follow the glorious example of Saint Joseph, as e respond to wetin our Lord want with perfect faith and trust.

Zechariah and Im Doubts

“Na me Gabriel, wey dey stand before God. Dem send me to talk to you and announce this good news to you. But now, your mouth go close and you no go fit talk until the day wey these things go happen, because you no believe my words, wey go come true for their proper time.” Luke 1:19b–20

Today, think well about your own faith. E pure, and e ready to accept everything wey God reveal? You ready and willing to believe everything wey God tell you? Even though you fit no receive His word directly through angel wey appear for you to see, you get di privilege say God dey speak to you all di time through dis angels wey dey plead for you. When dem speak, you dey listen and respond with faith like our Mama wey God bless? Or, like Zechariah, you dey hesitate and doubt wetin God reveal?
Lord, give me di same pure and holy faith wey Your Mama wey You bless get. Even though I admit my sin and weakness, help me, through her example and prayers for me, to receive every single word wey You want tell me through di hosts of Heaven. Make I always pay attention to Your word and respond with heart wey ready to give freely. Jesus, na You I trust.
Mama Wa Wey God Don Bless and Her Perfect Faith

Today, pray for the gift to see. Pray make our Lord give you the eyes wey you need to notice His divine presence all around you. And especially, pray make your mind and heart open to His divine presence as you meet Him and receive Him for Holy Communion.
Lord, I really want see You and know You. I want recognise Your presence all around me and for every way wey You take come meet me. Help me, especially, to pay attention to Your presence for Holy Communion. Make my heart always jump with joy as You come meet me for this way wey perfect pass every other way. Jesus, na You I trust.
The Great Joy of Our Blessed Mother
December 22, Day for Week wey dey Advent
“My soul dey proclaim how great the Lord be; my spirit dey rejoice in God my Saviour. Because He don look upon me, His lowly servant. From today, all generations go call me blessed: the Almighty don do great things for me, and His Name holy.” Luke 1:46–49
This song dey show the joy wey dey the heart of the Mother of God. With humility, she acknowledge the great things wey God don do for her, and she express the deep joy wey dey her heart.
One interesting thing to notice be say this song of praise mention both her “soul” and her “spirit.” Her soul dey “proclaim” and her spirit dey “rejoice.” Wetin this one dey show?
One thing wey e show na both wetin she herself do and wetin God do. Our Blessed Mama “soul” mean all her human abilities wey dey her mind, her power to choose, her feelings and her desires. Na wetin make her human be that. And na with those human abilities she dey proclaim how great God be. For another way to talk am, with her mind she recognise how great God be; with her power to choose, she acknowledge His greatness and choose to proclaim am; and she do so with all her feelings, emotions and desires. God greatness fill her whole being!
E also show say inside her “spirit,” she full with the glorious gift of joy. As she dey proclaim how great God be, the Holy Spirit fill her well-well and produce this spiritual fruit. Joy dey come from God as He dey work inside our lives. Na fruit of the Holy Spirit, and our Blessed Mama get this gift in all its fullness.
Today, reflect on your own soul and spirit. You dey follow the perfect example of our Blessed Mama as she dey seek to know God, love Him and proclaim His greatness with her whole being? And you dey allow the Holy Spirit fill your spirit with joy? Ask our Blessed Mama to pray for you as Christmas dey near. Ask for the grace to “proclaim” and “rejoice” with her for the celebration of the birth of her Divine Son wey dey come, so that you too fit sing her song of praise!

Zechariah Come Back to Faith

Our beautiful story still dey continue as we dey near Christmas Day, when we go celebrate the Birth of Christ. Today, we dey reflect again on Zechariah, the papa of Saint John the Baptist. We remember how God bless am and Elizabeth with this pregnancy wey happen through miracle for their old age, after dem no fit get pikin before. Angel Gabriel appear to Zechariah inside the temple to reveal this glorious thing wey go happen, but Zechariah no believe the message. Because of this, e no fit talk again until this day wey dem born the pikin.
Today Gospel dey show how Zechariah untie the knot of im unbelief. Instead, most times, God dey allow the consequences of any lack of faith because E get something greater for mind. Today, reflect on any hardship wey you don face because of your own weakness, sin or lack of faith. No see any hardship as punishment for the usual meaning of that word. Instead, see am as opportunity wey God dey use call you to give Am even greater glory.
Lord, I know say faith dey lack for my life. I no dey believe everything wey You tell me. Because of this, I often no dey put Your words into action. Dear Lord, when I suffer because of my weakness, help me know say this suffering and all other suffering fit bring glory to You if I renew my faith. Help me, like Zechariah, to always come back to You, and use me as instrument to show Your glory. Jesus, na You I trust.
Zechariah Proclaim Im Faith

“You, my pikin, dem go call you prophet of the Most High, because you go go ahead of the Lord to prepare His way, to make His people know salvation through forgiveness of their sins. Because of the tender compassion of our God, the dawn from above go break upon us, to shine on those wey dey live for darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet enter the way of peace.” Luke 1:76–79
Zechariah sing this song of praise as soon as im tongue free, after e don show faith when dem born im son John. And for this particular song of praise, Zechariah give glory to God as e show no be only im faith, but also the fruit of im faith: deep and clear knowledge of how the Father for Heaven dey work, wey e understand well and fit express clearly.

Na so e suppose happen with each one of us too. E for easy for Zechariah to vex and lose all hope. E for easy for am to lose hope and feel say God don abandon am. But e no do so. E wait, as e trust say God go remain faithful, and when im time reach, e talk this beautiful song of praise wey full of faith.
Today, think deep about how God want make you follow the example of Zechariah for faith and how e no give up. E for easy to look am down because e doubt. But God no do so. Instead, E give am chance to honour Am through all the ages with this song. Look for the ways wey God still want take work through the times wey you fail for the past.
