Holy Satide
Today na day of silence. For Jesus’ first disciples, e go don be day of confusion. How Jesus take go like this? Why He no use miracle come down from di Cross? Na person wey dey deceive people He be? Na liar? No be di Son of God, di Messiah, He be? These questions and plenty others fit don pass through di minds of Jesus’ many followers. He don truly die, and He lie inside tomb wey empty.
Our Blessed Mama get different thoughts. Peace dey her heart, and she dey wait with plenty joy. She don just endure di greatest suffering wey any mama fit endure, and now she know say she go see her Son again very soon. She dey wait for di joy of di Resurrection, and by Holy Saturday, she go don begin experience that joy wey plenty well-well.
Throughout Lent, we don dey reflect on sin, suffering and sacrifice. To do this fit make us lose heart and feel say everything we believe no get meaning, if we no know how di story end. Di Cross dey lead to di Resurrection. Na why di sacrifices we make during Lent no be di final goal by themselves; na way for us to share more fully in di perfect joy of di Resurrection!
As we dey show love through sacrifice, accept suffering, overcome sin and carry our cross, we must dey wait quietly with hope. Because of Jesus’ life, death and Resurrection, we fit bear fruit for di Kingdom of God every time we join our actions to His own. When we do so, we dey receive invitation to wait quietly for di good fruit wey go come.
When we forgive another person wey don harm us and pour mercy on di person instead of judging am, we no go remain bitter or keep bad feeling for di person. Instead, we go receive di gift to wait quietly with hope for di change wey our sacrifice of forgiveness fit bring for person life. Every sacrifice we make for life wey get root for God love go leave us with this beautiful gift of waiting quietly with hope, as we dey wait for wetin our love go produce.
Reflect on this gift today. Even though dem no dey celebrate Holy Saturday as liturgical feast, di message wey this day dey pass get power. After every act of sacrificial love for Good Friday, we must stay alert and wait for Holy Saturday. And when di good fruit of our sacrificial love don mature, di joy of di Resurrection don near. Wait with hope for those resurrections, and allow dem bring hope into your soul, so that you no go ever tire for di sacrifices of Lent and di Triduum, wey dey lead you again and again to celebrate Christ victory.
My Lord wey dey silent, even though Your body don die and dey inside di tomb, Your soul dey alive, di gates of Heaven don open, and You dey prepare for Your final victory. Your Blessed Mama know about this fruit wey go come, and she wait for am with great hope and joy. Abeg, give me this precious gift to dey wait with hope every time I show love through sacrifice, so that this hope go move me to love more, as I dey imitate Your most holy life. Mama Mary, pray for me. Jesus, na You I trust.
